The bodies of a 29-year-old father, a mother, and their 5-year-old son were found in a home on Brittany Lane, just outside of Whiteville, on Saturday. A fourth person, a 48-year-old aunt, was transported to Columbus Regional Healthcare Systems and was expected to survive.
Investigators said they all had been shot, and they think the family was targeted.
Columbus County Sheriff's detectives on Wednesday said they're looking for 23-year-old Marquez Montrell Cherry of Whiteville. Deputies didn't call him a suspect in this case at this time, but he has outstanding warrants for his arrest in an unrelated case.
Deputies say not to approach Cherry if you see him but to call 911 immediately. Any information you can provide can remain anonymous, they said.
A GoFundMe has been set up for the family.
