Insurance is providing $750,000 to fix the current damages, and city council will decide how to move forward at their next meeting in August.
“We can do that, we can certainly do that, fix what is. Or we can try and improve so this facility is here for another 60 years,” said Susan Baptist, the Director of Recreation Services for the City of Jacksonville.
Baptist says the front portion of the building is undergoing repairs and is scheduled to reopen in about two months.
With that, after school programs will be returning to the rec center.
