DUPLIN COUNTY, N.C. -- A major fire in Duplin County has burned 75 acres, according to emergency officials.

  • It's burning at Highway 50 South between Pasture Branch Road and John Stanley Bostic Road.
  • They say two firefighters had to be taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion and smoke inhalation.
  • Officials say several poultry and swine farms could be in danger, but no damage has been done at this point.

All together, about 75 firefighters and forest service personnel helped fight it, as well as four plans, five plows and nine volunteer fire departments.

No other injuries or animals had been reported.

They have not released what they think caused the fire.
