BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. -- An 8-year-old boy is recovering after being bitten by a shark at Bald Head Island Sunday afternoon.

• An 8-year-old was bitten by a shark Sunday.
• It happened on Bald Head Island.
• They are expected to be okay. 

It happened Sunday afternoon around 4 near S. Bald Head Wynd.

Officials say the boy was in the ocean when a shark grabbed him by the leg.

In the 911 calls released Monday, it says the boy was bit on the same leg twice.

He was taken to the hospital with multiple puncture wounds but is expected to make a full recovery.

This is the third possible shark bite on the coast for this month alone. That's the same amount of bites North Carolina got for the whole year in 2018, according to Florida Museum's shark attack summary.
