ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. -- Three commercial properties in Atlantic Beach are in violation of town code for damages from Hurricane Florence.

  • One property owner said he is working with an insurance adjuster before making repairs on a storage and office unit connected to Hi-Lites retail store.
  • The former Channel Marker restaurant property is also in violation of codes. It is for sale and Spectrum News could not make contact with the owner.
  • There is not a timeline for when the buildings will be repaired or demolished.

One property owner said he is working with an insurance adjuster before making repairs on a storage and office unit connected to Hi-Lites retail store.

The former Channel Marker restaurant property is also in violation of codes. It is for sale and Spectrum News could not make contact with the owner.

The third business is the former Gem of the Crystal Coast bar.

Town officials say they are waiting to issue citations if property owners can provide proof of plans to make repairs. So far none of the three businesses have presented documentation and officials say time is running out.

“Having vacant properties or having dilapidated structures doesn’t help the whole of Atlantic Beach as a community, as a tourist destination," said Michelle Eitner, Atlantic Beach planning and development director.

There is not a timeline for when the buildings will be repaired or demolished.
