EMERALD ISLE, N.C. -- Authorities say a Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune drowned on Emerald Isle Saturday.

  • Emergency services were called around 4:30 p.m. for a distressed swimmer.
  • Yellow beach flags were displayed showing moderate risk of strong currents at the time.
  • Lance Cpt. Hinds served as an administrative specialist with with Alpha Company, Headquarters and Support Battalion, MCIEAST-MCB Camp Lejeune.

Emergency services were called around 4:30 p.m. for a distressed swimmer. When crews arrived, Justin Hinds, of Arizona, had been pulled from the water by his friends.

They worked to save him, but he was pronounced dead at Carteret Health Care. Yellow beach flags were displayed showing moderate risk of strong currents at the time.
