The students at the New Bern school missed more than 30 days of school following Hurricane Florence and their teachers thought it would be healthy for them to share what they’ve been through.

So, each classroom was assigned to share their experience before, during, and after the storm, including artwork.

“We had kids that went out of town, we had kids that stayed here and lost a lot. And we wanted them to be able to reason that out with their friends and so we decided we're going to write about it,” says Stephanie Dale,  one of the third grade teachers who came up with the book idea.

Dale then applied for a grant through Partners in Education, allowing the publication of 50 books.

They are on sale for $25 each and checks can be made out to Brinson Memorial Elementary School. Money must be included with order. All proceeds will go to long-term recovery through the local nonprofit, Carrie On, Inc.
