WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. – Down but not out, the Wayne County town of Seven Springs continues to recover from Hurricane Florence.

  • It was the third major storm in the past 20 years
  • The town's mayor says there are other recovery efforts in the works
  • There are plans for the town's annual Old Timey Festival to be held on May 11

The third major storm in the past 20 years has changed the landscape of the town, but not its resolve. Having to overcome those repeated natural disasters, especially the flooding, would be difficult for any city or town.

A couple of months ago, a popular community hangout, Mae's Restaurant, reopened. It had been shut down after major flooding last September. The town's mayor says other recovery plans are in the works.

"We are working hard to get some RV campground sites set up which we hope to have this summer. We're also going to revamp our community park,” said mayor Stephen Potter.

Another sign of Seven Springs recovery is the arrival of wireless Internet and eventually free wireless for Main Street. There are plans for the town's annual Old Timey Festival to be held on May 11. It is expected to have a record number of vendors participating this year.
