ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. -- Monday marks one year since the disappearance of 3-year-old Onslow County girl, Mariah Woods.

Prior coverage:

The toddler vanished from her home on Dawson Cabin Road and her mother reported her missing the following day.

Mariah's body was later found in December in a Pender County creek, wrapped in trash bags inside a couch cushion.

Based on chemical and toxicology tests, medical examiners determined chloroform was the cause of Mariah's death.

Adolphus Earl Kimrey II, the live-in boyfriend of Mariah's mother, faces first degree murder charges in Mariah's death, along with felony child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury and death.

If convicted, Kimrey could face the death penalty.

His trial is set for September 2019.

A makeshift memorial at the intersection of Dawson Cabin Road and Ernest King Road continues to grow. It will be the location of the candlelight vigil happening in Mariah's memory Sunday, December 9 at 5 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear pink, Mariah's favorite color.
