ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. -- A new autopsy of Mariah Woods reveals some horrific details.

The missing 3-year-old's body was found less than a week after a massive search took place for her near Shelter Creek along Shaw Highway in Pender County.

PREVIOUS COVERAGE:

The 3-year-old was found in a creek, wrapped in trash bags inside a couch cushion that was weighed down with cement.

Authorities released the autopsy in her death last November in a full report Wednesday.

It said Mariah’s killer used chloroform, then stuffed the toddler in the cushion and put her into the creek where she was found in early December.

The report also shows that Mariah had cuts and bruises on her face.

No evidence of sexual assault was found.

Earl Kimrey, the live-in boyfriend of Mariah’s mother, was charged with murder in the girl's death back in January.

But some are asking why the toddler's mother hasn't been charged.

Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller says law enforcement simply can't operate on speculation.

"If we make an arrest, we start the clock, and then if we cannot prove the case, double jeopardy keeps us from doing it again, so we have to have the evidence," he said.

If convicted, Kimrey could get the death penalty. His trial is set for September 2019.
