CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -- Servicemembers on Camp Lejeune are getting a chance to plan their transition to life outside of the military.
On Wednesday, Marine Corps Community Services hosted more than 50 colleges and universities along with 100 employers as part of the National Career and Education Expo.
Servicemembers explored a variety of careers including law enforcement and mechanics while also learning about degree options, tuition assistance and how to use their GI bill.
One Marine says the event helped her understand how military service can transition to civilian life.
"I'm hoping to use my experience, especially within the Marine Corps, to just venture outside of that and maybe even go beyond that," said Private Jessie Valdez. "I'm avionics so there's mechanics; there are simple things, administrative jobs that mean a lot to people in the outside world."
