1. Gov. Greg Abbott says San Marcos faces defunding over ‘antisemitic’ Israel ceasefire resolution

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott threatened to cut off state funding to San Marcos if the City Council passes a resolution calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war.

In a letter to San Marcos Mayor Jane Hughson, Abbott said that “In Texas, no governmental entity may enter into a contract worth $100,000 or more unless it includes a ‘written verification’ that the contracting entity ‘does not boycott Israel’ and ‘will not boycott Israel during the term of the contract.’”

2. Detainees at the Bluebonnet detention center send an ‘SOS’ signal, fearing deportation to El Salvador prison

From the Bluebonnet immigrant detention facility in Texas, detained men stood together and created a large “SOS” signal visible to a passing drone, according to reports.

According to Reuters, 31 men gathered together at the facility in Anson, Texas, to create the signal.

3. Measles jumps borders in North America with outbreaks in Canada, Mexico and U.S.

North America’s three biggest measles outbreaks continue to balloon, with more than 2,500 known cases; three people have died in the U.S. and one in Mexico. It started in the fall in Ontario, Canada; then took off in late January in Texas and New Mexico; and has rapidly spread in Chihuahua state, which is up to 786 cases since mid-February.

4. Lotto.com sues Texas Lottery Commission over courier ban

Lotto.com, one of the top lottery courier services in the country, is suing the Texas Lottery Commission (TLC) in order to stop the banning of its services in the state. 

The Coalition of Texas Lottery Couriers, of which Lotto.com is a member, said the suit “lays bare the inconsistency and lack of accountability demonstrated by the TLC regarding the issue of lottery couriers,” according to a statement. 

5. As Texans prepare their property taxes, state lawmakers consider tax cut proposals

Lawmakers have proposed a nearly $51 billion property tax cut this year.

At the same time, Texas property owners are now receiving a notice of appraised value, which lets them know how much their property has increased or decreased in value for tax purposes.

6. Gregg Popovich out as Spurs head coach, transitions to another role

 Gregg Popovich will no longer be the head coach of the San Antonio Spurs, the team announced Friday. 

According to a statement posted on X, Popovich will be the team's new president of basketball operations.
