When Hurricane Helene made landfall on Thursday night along the Big Bend section of Florida's Gulf coast, heavy rain was already falling in western North Carolina. A stalled front pulled moisture well to the north of Florida starting late Wednesday. The rain then continued through Friday when the storm tracked to the north resulting in devastating flooding across communities all around our mountains.
