CLEMMONS, N.C. — Chris Paul rose to fame at West Forsyth High School and was named a 2003 McDonald's All-American.
Paul went on to play at Wake Forest University and was selected fourth overall in the 2005 NBA draft. He now plays for the San Antonio Spurs and is in the top three of the record books in assists and steals in his 20th season in the NBA.
But as he continues to rise in the NBA record books, two of his high school records were broken.
Paul, who is a Winston-Salem native, was surpassed by Jacari Brim as the all-time leader in points and assists at West Forsyth this season.
Although the season isn't over, Brim has passed Paul's mark of scoring over 1,600 points and over 600 assists for West Forsyth.
"I was just happy to be real, I couldn't describe it, I just felt really blessed, all glory to God on just passing a goal," Brim said. "Chris Paul is in the league, so hopefully I can stay on that path and make it to the league."
The Appalachian State commit helped lead the Titans to a Central Piedmont 4A conference regular season title this season, and he did it with his father on the sidelines.
Marlon Brim is the head coach at West Forsyth and watched his son rise in the West Forsyth record books to become the all-time leader.
"As a dad I was super proud," the coach said. "He puts in a lot of work with 7 o'clock workouts, doing extra stuff, so he deserves everything he's got because he's worked hard at everything."
Their father-son relationship is about more than basketball, and now the younger Brim will finish his high school career as one of the best to ever lace up for the Titans program.
