Carolina is coming off of a disappointing 7-9 season, one where the team raced out to a 6-2 record, but then lost seven games in a row to fall out of playoff contention.
"We just use that as motivation," linebacker Shaq Thompson said Wednesday. "We had a little bad stretch that didn't work out for us, but I think everybody, just from watching what we went through and the feeling of that, everybody's gonna use that as motivation, fire and energy just to make this season even better."
Rookie Brian Burns was the last draft pick to sign his contract, as he did so on Wednesday. Burns reported to camp on time, and will be on the field for the first practice of camp Thursday night.
The team made three roster moves prior to the start of workouts, releasing running back Elijah Hood, guard Ian Silberman (with a non-football illness), and defensive tackle Elijah Qualls (with a non-football related injury). Taking their spots on the roster are receiver Jaydon Mickens, guard Norman Price and defensive lineman Bijohn Jackson.
General Manager Marty Hurney also announced receiver Torrey Smith, and linebackers Jermaine Carter and Brandon Chubb will begin camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. All three are dealing with knee issues, but can be taken off the PUP list at any time.
