CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The International Champion’s Cup and Bank of America Stadium said they are making two big announcements Tuesday afternoon.
- Ever since David Tepper took over as the owner of the Carolina Panthers, he has talked about wanting to bring the MLS to Charlotte
- In February, the Panthers hosted meetings to get public opinion about bringing MLS to Bank of America stadium.
- The high turnout at Bank of America’s hosting of the Gold Cup Tournament back in June demonstrates strong public interest
Recent signs hint that the announcement maybe about bringing and MLS team to the Carolinas.
Ever since David Tepper took over as the owner of the Carolina Panthers, he has talked about wanting to bring the MLS to Charlotte.
In February, the Panthers hosted meetings to get public opinion about bringing MLS to Bank of America stadium.
The high turnout at Bank of America’s hosting of the CONCACAF Gold Cup Tournament back in June demonstrates strong public interest. Event organizers believe it's proof the city could support a Major League Soccer team.
“I think this is just a taste of what it could be if we had an MLS team here in the Carolina’s. I’m hoping that people will see there’s a following and there’s a lot of interest for soccer here”, said one Fan after the Gold Cup game in June.
The International Champion’s Cup tournament will also be played here in Charlotte, at Bank of America stadium on July 20.
All of these soccer events could be a build-up to a major league team. However, the city of Charlotte will have to wait and see until today’s 3 p.m. press conference at Bank of America Stadium.
