GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina University has announced Mike Houston as the school's new head football coach. A ceremony welcoming Houston was held Tuesday morning.

  • Houston guided James Madison University to a 37-6 record in three seasons
  • He has 13 combined years as a collegiate coach
  • Houston has signed a five-year contract with the Pirates

The news comes after former head football coach, Scottie Montgomery, was fired last Friday. It also comes after Jon Gilbert became ECU's new athletic director.

Houston, a native from Franklin, North Carolina, guided James Madison University to a 37-6 record in three seasons with the team.

He has 13 combined years as a collegiate coach, including as the head coach at the Citadel in Charleston and at Lenoir-Rhyne.

Houston has signed a five-year contract with the Pirates.
