CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers say they have parted ways with head coach Matt Rhule

Monday's announcement follows a dissapointing 1-4 start to the 2022 season.

The Panthers went 11-27 since Rhule took over in 2020. Rhule was considered one of the coaches most in the hot seat going into this season.

Prior to his time in the Carolinas, Rhule found big success at Temple and Baylor.

The team's fortunes have not improved Baker Mayfield at quarterback.

Defensive pass game coordinator and secondary coach Steve Wilks will serve as interim coach until the franchise can find a replacement.

Wilks, a Charlotte native and Appalachian State alumnus, was the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals for the 2018 season. He went just 3-13 before being let go.
