DURHAM, N.C. — Watch parties for this weekend's UNC-Duke game are happening all over the world, including, of course, in Chapel Hill and Durham.
Glass Jug Beer Lab is hosting watch parties on Saturday at both of its Durham locations — on Foster Street and in Research Triangle Park.
The co-owners both went to UNC Chapel Hill for their undergraduate degrees and are naturally Tar Heels fans. But some of their staff and customers root for the Blue Devils.
"It's certainly exciting, we certainly love having both Carolina and Duke fans here," said Glass Jug Beer Lab co-owner Chris Creech. "I will begrudgingly say it, it does make it more fun when there's a little opposition.”
Creech's retail sale manager, Jon Odgers, was raised in Durham and grew up watching the Blue Devils. He says fans have always talked about Duke and Carolina meeting in the Final Four, but he never thought it would happen.
"Duke [and] Carolina is what makes this area and being that they are so close, and both such great teams, great programs, great coaches," Odgers said. "It's just awesome to live here. I don't think I would be a basketball fan if it wasn't for growing up here with Duke and Carolina."
Glass Jug Beer Lab staff will be showing the Villanova vs. Kansas game in addition to the Duke vs. UNC game. Reservations aren't needed, so it will be first come, first served.
This is the first time Duke and UNC have ever played each other in the NCAA tournament. The game tips off at 8:49 p.m. Saturday.
