Estephany Escobar has been reporting for the Spectrum News Charlotte team since June of 2019. Passionate about generating change in the community through storytelling, Estephany is dedicated to giving a voice to those who would otherwise go unheard. A Charlotte resident, Estephany describes the city’s diversity, continuous growth, and variety of stories that can be covered as what drew her to report for this community. Born and raised in Colombia, South America, Estephany learned English at a young age and moved to the US in 2005 with the dream of becoming a bilingual reporter. Today, Estephany is living that dream.

Throughout Estephany’s time reporting, she’s covered countless memorable stories. However, one that sticks out to her is her coverage of a six-year-old girl who died three weeks after being diagnosed with the flu and strep throat. When Madelynn was at the hospital, doctors discovered she had a rare disease called Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis or HLH. This story was meaningful to Estephany because it allowed her to raise awareness about the disease, and share the legacy the little girl left in the community.

When Estephany isn’t working on her next story, you can find her spending time with her husband, Ryan, and their beloved pup, Kami. A lover of travel, running and biking, it’s a safe bet that you can usually find Estephany out and about, exploring all that her community has to offer.
