TEXAS — The Texas Senate passed legislation Wednesday that would essentially create an efficiency office similar to the recently created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Senate Bill 14, sponsored by Republican Sen. Phil King, creates a Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office within the governor’s office, overseen by an advisory panel to streamline regulations.
“I prioritized SB 14 because President Trump’s creation of the ‘Department of Government Efficiency’ inspired me to find ways Texas can save taxpayers and businesses money by cutting burdensome regulations,” Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said in a statement. “The Texas Miracle will continue long into the 21st century because our common sense, conservative approach to regulation will keep Texans prosperous and our economy strong.”
This bill would allow for public access to state agency rules, forms and filings. The bill enables the creation of a website, allowing searches for rules, forms and filings.
SB 14’s next step is a House committee review, preceding a potential Texas House vote. If it advances past the House, it will go to Gov. Greg Abbott's desk for his signature.
The Department of Government Efficiency was established by President Donald Trump via executive order on Jan. 20, 2025. The purpose of DOGE is “modernizing federal technology and software to maximize governmental efficiency and productivity."
