CHERRY POINT, N.C. — It's not often you get to eat a Thanksgiving dinner with a president.

In fact, it's never happened before at the Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point.

What You Need To Know

  • The Bidens served dinner to over 400 service members and families
  • This was the first Thanksgiving meal a president has held at the Cherry Point Air Station
  • Celebrity Chef Robert Irvine cooked the Thanksgiving dinner
  • "You are literally, not figuratively, the greatest fighting force, the best fighting force in the history of the world," President Joe Biden said

The parents of a former service member themselves, the Bidens wanted to make sure everyone could experience a warm Thanksgiving meal away from home.

“We know you’re here with your family, here because military is your family," first lady Jill Biden said.

The president and first lady were even joined by world renowned Chef Robert Irvine, who cooked the Thanksgiving feast.

A veteran himself, Irvine said cooking for the troops was an honor.

“I want to take this minute to recognize and honor that sacrifice," Irvine said. "The promise and freedom we enjoy in this country is unrivaled, and we don’t take that lightly.”

The three even rolled up their sleeves and served all 400 service members and family in attendance.

They said it's the least they could do for those who defend our country everyday.

“America has a lot of responsibilities, but one sacred responsibility, and I mean it sincerely from the bottom of my heart, that is to equip those that we send into harms way and care for them and their families when they come home," Biden said. "Because I said you represent 1% of the population and you defend the rest of it.”
