Eleven elected officials in the Hudson Valley and Capital Region on Tuesday endorsed Jumaane Williams for governor and his preferred running mate for lieutenant governor, Ana Maria Archila.

Williams, the New York City public advocate, is challenging Gov. Kathy Hochul for the Democratic nomination this June along with U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi.

“Our campaign is seeing tremendous traction across the state, and I’m proud to have the support of these leaders in the Hudson Valley and Capitol District," Williams said. "We’re gaining momentum by the day, and as we enter into the next phase of the campaign, our goal is to continue spreading our message far and wide that we will bring a renewed New York to working families across the state.”

The informal ticket, running in a progressive lane, was endorsed by Albany County Legislator Sam Fein, Albany Common Council Members Gabriella Romero and Representative Sergio Adams; in Newburgh, Orange County Legislators Kevindaryan Lujan and Genesis Ramos, Newburgh City Councilmembers Gisselle Martinez, Ramona Monteverde and Omari Shakur; and in Beacon, City Councilmembers Dan Aymar-Blair, Paloma Wake, and Justice McCray. NAACP Newburgh-Highland Falls’ President Ray Harvey also endorsed both candidates.

“I am proud to stand together with these Hudson Valley and Capital Districts leaders to fight for a state government that puts the needs of working families before the whims of billionaire donors," Archila said. "Together, we will work to make sure that all New Yorkers have what they need and deserve – affordable housing, access to child care, excellent healthcare, high-quality education, clean air, and clean water.”
