A couple of waves of intense storms that developed ahead of an incoming cold front made their way across portions of North Carolina Thursday.
The storms produced damaging wind gusts and instances of flash flooding, according to Spectrum News 1 meteorologists.
Caldwell, northern Iredell and Catawba counties were some of the hardest hit in western North Carolina.
One viewer in Catawba County posted video to X of a tree coming down in their yard near Blackburn Elementary. They said the fall damaged a vehicle and their attached garage.
Caldwell County also had reports of flash flooding that left some vehicles partially submerged.
Damaging wind gusts were also a problem around portions of the Triangle and Triad, with multiple wind damage reports in Forsyth and Guilford counties.
Crews on Knollwood Street in Winston-Salem spent Friday morning removing a large tree that came down on nearby powerlines.
A Facebook post from another resident in Winston-Salem also shows a tree split apart in the front yard of their home in the Ardmore Village area due to the damaging gusts.
In Raleigh, an apartment complex on Blue Bird Court was damaged by a fire caused by the storm, officials with Raleigh Fire Department confirmed Friday morning.
Officials said the fire happened around midnight. No injuries were reported, but roughly 10 residents were displaced.
Several thousand people lost power as a result of the storms. As of Friday morning, the majority of those outages were concentrated in Forsyth County.
"Our crews are working to restore power today, and several of the outages do not yet have an estimated time of restoration," Jeff Brooks with Duke Energy said in a statement. "Overall, we have about 5,000 customers across North Carolina remaining without power. We will continue restoration work today until everybody is restored."
