Women's History Month is a time to highlight women who are making an impact on their communities.

Spectrum and the Women in Cable Television: Carolinas organization partnered for a leadership summit Wednesday in Raleigh.

The event highlighted the contributions of women in media, entertainment and technology, fields historically dominated by men.

North Carolina Sen. Sydney Batch spoke at the event about what women have to do to thrive in those spaces.

"When you're going in these spaces just take up that space,” she said. “You have to go ahead and build confidence. The only way you can do that is by building confidence and actually practicing it and knowing you have the right to be there just like all the other men.”

“You're just as smart and just as capable as them," Batch said.
