On Sunday, five people, including four minors, were killed in a car crash in Bladen County, according to North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 4 p.m. on Jan. 19 when a Chevrolet SUV traveling south on Purdie-Hall Road collided with a semi-truck that was traveling east on N.C. Highway 20. Authorities report that the SUV failed to stop at a stop sign and went into the truck’s path.

All five occupants of the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene. This includes 36-year-old Maribel Hernandez and four minors who were 15, 14, 9 and 6 years old. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured at the scene.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol has said there will be no charges filed as a result of the crash because the fault lies with the driver of the SUV.

Authorities say there were no weather conditions or signs of impairment that appear to be factors in the crash, but the investigation remains ongoing.
