WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – A knife-wielding man who charged at a police officer was shot and wounded late Saturday night, Winston-Salem police said.
Marcel Ndimubandi, 65, was in critical but stable condition at a hospital early Sunday morning, authorities said.
An officer responding to a call about 11:10 p.m. Saturday heard screams from a house in the 3000 block of Zachary’s Keep Court. The officer found Ndimubandi armed with a knife, and as the officer tried to talk to Ndimubandi, he charged. The officer, who was not identified, fired shots in response, authorities said.
The officer and others inside the house in southwest Winston-Salem were not injured.
Ndimubandi has faced previous charges in the past 21 months, authorities said, including five counts of assault.
Police have asked the State Bureau of Investigation to independently investigate.
