Police in western North Carolina canceled an Amber Alert late Tuesday morning after they found two missing girls.

Two children were missing in Haywood County, and were believed to be with a 46-year-old man, according to the Haywood County Sheriff's Office. Authorities canceled the alert at11:25 a.m. Tuesday, about 12 hours after it was issued.

"The children were found unharmed, thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of the Haywood County Sheriff's Office, and the Cherokee Tribal Police Department, who assisted in locating one of the children," the Haywood County Sheriff's Office said. 

An Amber Alert was issued late Monday night for a 12-year-old and a 3-year-old. Deputies with the Haywood County Sheriff's Office believe the girls were with Jacob Stepp. The girls were taken from a home on Medford Drive in Waynesville on Monday, according to investigators.

Jacob Stepp was last seen driving a 2016 white Dodge Challenger with black racing stripes and NC license tag KMC-5951. Deputies describe him as being 6 feet tall and 200 pounds with brown hair and green eyes. He also has a tattoo on both shoulders, deputies said.
