One person was killed and another was seriously injured when a tree fell on a home in northwest Charlotte early Friday morning, according to officials.

The tree fell on a home on Brookway Drive off of Rozzelles Ferry Road as rain and strong winds picked up from Helene.

According to Medic, one person went to the hospital with serious injuries after the tree fell on the home and another person died on scene.

Rain started falling Wednesday in the Charlotte area, and a Flash Flood Warning was issued for parts of the Charlotte area Thursday morning. 

Evacuation orders have been issued in parts of western North Carolina, where up to 18 inches of rainfall is possible.
