Former President Donald Trump is set to speak in Charlotte at a Fraternal Order of Police event Friday, according to the organization.
National President of the Fraternal Order of Police Patrick Yoes said Trump accepted the invite to address the FOP's National Board of Trustees. The board includes seven members and a national trustee from each of the organization's 46 state lodges.
A time for Trump's expected speech was not provided.
“He [Trump] was a great friend to the FOP while president and we look forward to hearing from him—and having him hear from us—on the issues important to the rank-and-file officers the FOP represents," Yoes said.
Traffic impacts
Interstate 85 will be closed around Charlotte Douglas International Airport and in north Charlotte from 2:30 to 7 p.m. Friday for Trump's visit, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
Traffic will be redirected, but police ask commuters to avoid the area if possible.
"Expect significant delays on alternate routes," police said.
Trump was in Asheville and Asheboro last month for campaign events.
