A busy Charlotte intersection was closed much of Monday morning due to a "SWAT incident," the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department posted on social media Monday morning.
The closure started shortly after 7 a.m. following an incident at the Circle K at the intersection of Fairview Road and Sharon Road.
A man had barricaded himself inside a gas station, according to police. He surrendered to police after an hourslong standoff, officials said at about 11:30 a.m.
"SWAT negotiators have reached a peaceful resolution in this incident. The subject has been taken into custody without injury and is being transported to a local hospital for evaluation," CMPD said.
Though the incident has been contained to the store, police say, the intersection remains closed. Anyone traveling through the area is asked to choose a different route.
