Officers shot and killed a wanted man as he tried to hit deputies with his vehicle Monday evening in Conover, according to the Catawba County Sheriff's Office.
It happened around 6 p.m. in the Elite Comfort Solutions parking lot off of Farrington Street SW, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies with the county's SWAT team tried to arrest 33-year-old Pierre Demond Ramseu, who was wanted for kidnapping, robbery, larceny, communicating threats and injury to personal property.
Ramseu also had an outstanding domestic violence protective order and was out on bond after being charged with murder.
Officers said during the attempted arrest, Ramseu refused to comply with getting out of his car and struck several patrol cars in an attempt to avoid arrest.
"This suspect was then shot and killed by STAR members," the sheriff's office said, referring to the county's SWAT team, "as he approached other members of law enforcement with his vehicle."
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
Ramsea's next of kin have been notified of his death, the sheriff's office said.
