CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Officers arrested a woman after they say her child died after being left in a hot car, according to a release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Police say the 8-year-old girl was already in critical condition after suffering a medical emergency in the car when they responded to the 4100 block of Wilkinson Boulevard just before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. She died shortly after she was taken to a hospital, according to the release.

Police say they arrested and charged Ashlee Stallings, 36, with involuntary manslaughter and child abuse by willful act causing serious injury.
