Deputies say 29-year-old Jeremy Huffman stole a vehicle in Catawba County and led them on a chase from Lincoln County into Cleveland County.

The stolen vehicle was spotted about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in a parking area on N.C. Highway 18 and N.C. Highway 10 in Lincoln County.

When officers approached, deputies say Huffman, who was driving the stolen vehicle, fled into Cleveland County. He eventually crashed on U.S. Highway 74 before running into the woods.

Deputies say Huffman shot at officers during the chase and after crashing.

"During the chase, the suspect held a handgun [out] of the driver’s side window and fired at officers who were pursuing the vehicle," according to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office. "Deputies returned fire."

No officers were hurt during the shooting, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, and Huffman was also not hurt.
