“It’s a good feeling to give back," Gilliam said.

He's been fighting pests for decades.

“Forty-three years now," Gilliam said. “I used to work for Orkin extermination. And learn how to do things. And I would serve with the manager there and went out and got my license."

He said a typical service to eradicate roaches, ants, spiders and rodents ranges from $125 to $175. And he's glad he's able to offer the pest control service for free.

“My grandmother always said that if you give to the needy, it's like loaning money to God, and he would pay you back," Gilliam said.

With his grandmother serving as inspiration, Gilliam believes helping the elderly in his community is his true calling.

“I used to watch her struggle, struggle with her medication," he said. "She couldn't really afford it. And I watched her struggle with that and didn't feel too good about it as a young man. So I decided, hey, if I get a chance to give something back to the community.”
