GREENSBORO, N.C. — The University of North Carolina Greensboro now offers one of the largest addiction recovery spaces for students of any college in the country.

What You Need To Know

  • April is Alcoholism Awareness Month, and Collegiate Recovery Day was April 15

  • UNC Greensboro’s Spartan Recovery Center recently expanded its space, hours and services to help more people get sober

  • The new location will also be accessible to treatment groups outside the uncle community

The new location on Highland Avenue has allowed the program to expand its hours.

Until the 2023 school year, students in the program like junior Trinity Mustico met in the basement of the student health center, but a $400,000 grant from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has helped the program move into a new location and expand its hours.

"We can get more resources and help people in the dorms because that is where they live when they are not in classes," Mustico said.

Leaders with the program said membership has grown to about 90 students since moving.

The university now shares the space with other treatment groups.

“We have something to be proud of at UNCG Greensboro, and I think that we have an example for other universities not only around the state but the country,” UNCG Spartan Recovery Program coordinator Ches Kennedy said.
