WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Kaleideum children's museum in Winston-Salem will open in its new West Third Street location on Saturday.

What You Need To Know

  • The Kaleideum children's museum closed in December to relocate in downtown Winston-Salem

  • The grand opening at its new downtown location is Saturday

  • The reimagined children's museum will be bilingual and more accessible to people of all mobilities

Chief executive officer Elizabeth Dampier said the new 70,000-square-foot building has four floors and room for exhibits its previous space didn't.

“Our goal here is to bring out more and be more than just a traditional science museum, but a children’s museum, and even more than that, an experiential learning museum for all ages,” Dampier explained.

Kaleideum Downtown closed in April, and Kaleideum North closed at the end of December.

Thursday, Forsyth County commissioners joined the Kaleideum board for a ribbon cutting at the new site.

Dampier said she is excited for families to experience the space that combines elements of both locations.

"While you still have some of your favorites and some of the things that you’ve always loved to do, it’s like 2.0. It’s an expanded version with more opportunities," she said.

Every exhibit in the new building will also be more accessible to people of all mobilities and completely bilingual.
