A potent storm system is producing heavy rain, strong wind gusts and tornado warnings Tuesday in North Carolina.

Freezing rain came down in the mountains in the morning, with ice building up in Boone and Blowing Rock.

Wind gusts of 40-50 mph are expected, and gusts up to 60 mph are possible in the mountains and along the coast. The strong wind with saturated soil could bring down trees and power lines. Gov. Roy Cooper has declared a state of emergency.
