GRANDFATHER MOUNTAIN, N.C. — The weather was perfect to bring people to the mountain. The Blue Ridge Parkway near Grandfather Mountain was full of people from all over the world who came in for a chance to see the leaves.
"It's something that whether you see it every year or never seen it. It's just a must," Hickory resident Kurt Floyd said.
People came to explore the mountains through fishing, hiking and even just spending time to see the leaves. As you drive up the parkway toward the Linn Cove Viaduct the colors start to explode. The oranges and reds are bright.
"So many trees turn red just overnight and very impressive," Winslow Lin said.
Lin is from China and just got to North Carolina to finish his graduate studies, but first he's going to the Great Smoky Mountains.
"We want to find black bear," Lin said.
On the way they are doing a tour of the leaves. The colors they say are something they won't forget. The parkway was full of people from all over the world just wanting to get a peak. Whether it's the feeling you get when you see them or the experience everyone says going up the mountain was worth the trip.
If you miss the peaking leaves up in those high elevations you can go to an overlook and look down. Areas like Asheville will see their peaking leaves October 20-27.
