RALEIGH, N.C. – This year’s N.C. State Fair is more than 90 days away, but registration for the annual event’s competitions has begun, organizers announced Wednesday.
The fair, scheduled to run this year for Oct. 12-22, features rides, foods and performances.
There are contests in three broad categories: horse shows, livestock and general competitions. Participants vie for prizes in areas such as handicrafts, heritage dance and music and tobacco stringing. There are also competitions for best jams, cookies, cakes and other culinary treats.
“With 4,027 classes of competitions available for entry, there is truly something for everyone,” John Buettner, competitive exhibits coordinator, said in a news release.
The deadline to register for many competitions is September. More information about the competitions can be found at here.
The fair, which started in 1853, has been held at the N.C. State Fairgrounds since 1928 and now draws more than 800,000 visitors a year, organizers say.
