CONCORD, N.C. — A Concord police officer was caught on camera passing a stopped school bus as a student was getting off the bus last week, the Concord Police Department says.
The video shows a marked Concord Police Department vehicle passing a stopped school bus, police say, in Cabarrus County, just outside Concord city limits. Officers saw the video Thursday night.
“The video shared on social media shows a Concord Police Department vehicle breaking the law and endangering a child,” the Concord Police Department posted on social media. “The actions of this driver are something no one should do, especially not an officer who is held to a higher standard.”
After working with Highway Patrol to gather information, Sergeant Matthew Willet with the Concord Police Department was cited for passing a stopped school bus. Police say Willet is on administrative leave pending the investigation.
“We’re committed to accountability and ask our community to remain patient while we complete our investigation,” the Concord Police Department said.
Officers say they reached out to the family of the girl involved.
