CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Carolina Panthers fans have had a roller coaster of an off-season with a new coaching staff and now the NFL draft first pick, Bryce Young as the quarterback.

What You Need To Know

  • The Carolina Panthers have chosen their first NFL draft pick, quarterback Bryce Young from Alabama
  • Longtime fan and season-ticket holder Julie Blum says she is looking forward to the new quarterback bringing the excitement back to the Queen City
  • Blum became a Panthers fan thanks to her mom, Linda Blum, a former NFL cheerleader who bought season tickets during the inaugural season in 1995

Charlotte woman Julie Blum's home is decorated with Panthers memorabilia and framed pictures of her family attending tailgates outside the Bank of America Stadium.

"My mom, Linda Blum, was an NFL cheerleader, so when Charlotte acquired the Panthers franchise in 1993, she bought season tickets, and I've been a fan ever since," Julie Blum said.

A hallway in her house is dedicated to framed pictures and memories of the Panthers' past seasons, and her favorite player was Luke Kuechly.

"I just love the type of person he is," Blum said.

Blum and her mothers went to Spartanburg, S.C., every year for training camp, and they also were able to go to the Super Bowl in California with the Cardiac Cats.

“My mom was sick at the time, so it was really special. My dad called us at 2 a.m. and told us he got us tickets. She would be so proud," Blum said in between tears.

Her mom passed away a few years ago from lung cancer, but their tradition continues.

Blum still goes to every game and sits in section 131, row 3.

After the last disappointing season, Blum has her fingers crossed the new players bring excitement at the very least.

“I know we’ve some player personnel turnover, but we’ve got some really good folks in the off season, so I’m just really excited to have a cohesive team, and a lot of excitement. It's been a while. It feels like even the city is excited with all the new stuff going on," Blum said.

And of course, a winning season wouldn't hurt.

“Of course, we’ll take wins all day long!" Blum said.
