This week’s Spectrum News High School Scholar is Adam Gordy, a senior at Northwest Guilford High School with a 4.7 GPA
Gordy plans to attend Davidson College and is interested in studying biology or mathematics
Northwest Guilford High School senior Adam Gordy thrives in controlled chaos – especially on the soccer field. He said playing with the Piedmont Triad Football Club, and on his school’s varsity soccer team, taught him how to be a leader.
“I’ve been captain of this team and my school team for forever,” Gordy said. “Obviously, playing on a team [for] so long, you learn to work with people.”
He thrives in chaos on the field, but he is in complete control in the classroom. Gordy explained that school has always been important to him. He said he has a 4.7 GPA, is dual-enrolled at Guilford Technical Community College and plans to attend Davidson College in Fall 2023.
“I’m either planning on studying biology or like a … mathematical statistics,” Gordy said.
When he’s not in class or on the soccer field, Gordy enjoys playing chess with fellow Northwest Guilford student Shaun Kim, participating in a variety of school clubs and volunteering at local food pantries. Kim enjoys good-naturedly teasing Gordy about his love for math and said he’s grateful for his friendship.
“He’s very hardworking, and I would say he’s a … very good motivator,” Kim said. “If I’m not feeling well or something, he always checks in and stuff. He’s very, very kind and I say, like, the most genuine person I know.”
Gordy said his relationships with his friends and family inspire him to go forward.
“I would say my biggest motivator is probably my parents. I always want to prove to them that … they raised their son correctly and just show to them that they should be proud of like, who I am too,” Gordy said.
Representative Ashton Wheeler Clemmons presented a $1,000 scholarship to Gordy at Northwest Guilford High School in recognition of his accomplishments.
