GREENSBORO, N.C. — The N.C. Year Of The Trail is the biggest statewide celebration of trails and outdoor recreation in the state's history, according to the Great Trails State Coalition.
The initiative encourages people of all abilities and backgrounds to embrace outdoor fun, and this year marks the 50th anniversary of the 1973 North Carolina Trails System Act.

That act made it possible for organizations and residents to develop and manage trails, ranging from hiking to off-road vehicle trails.

A hiker with the Piedmont Hiking and Outing Club said it's a great opportunity to remind residents to take advantage of their greenways, local trails and other outdoor recreation around them.
"People don’t know that about Greensboro. The trails are gorgeous, and there is plenty of recreation," Cody Finn said.
