DENVER, N.C. — The woman accused of hitting a deputy with her vehicle Monday night has been charged.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says 25-year-old Kara Johnson is charged with attempted murder.

Johnson is accused of intentionally hitting Deputy Christopher Camp at the intersection of NC-73 and NC-16 in Lincoln County.

According to reports, Camp stopped after a call about Johnson fighting with another woman in the middle of the roadway. During the incident, a witness said Johnson got in her vehicle and hit Camp, breaking her windshield.

The sheriff's office said Johnson then circled back to the scene and tried to hit Camp again before speeding away.

Camp was taken to Atrium Charlotte where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The sheriff said Camp was released Tuesday morning, and has two gashes on his head, but no broken bones.

The other woman involved in the altercation is not facing any charges, officials say.

Camp, a former Marine, has been with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office since August 2022.
