In the coming years, PHI says the growing population of older adults will drive a demand for home care workers even higher.

Currently, there are more than two million home care workers in the U.S., according to PHI.

And Zaneta Freeman is looking to add even more jobs.

Freeman, who lives in Cornelius, is hoping to open her own senior home care agency.

Freeman has worked in senior home care for more than 20 years.

Currently, she says she works in property management, but it’s her dream to open her own agency, and that’s what she’s working toward.

“It’s an investment in their lives, you know,” she said. "Making sure that their golden years become their best years.”

She says getting her business started is expensive, and she’s currently working on the funding.

“It's probably about a good $10,000 venture just to get up and get going and get started,” she said.

She’s also a mom to her 12-year-old son, Nathan.

She hopes to also provide for him and take care of older adults.

“I just feel like that position as a senior should really be honored because they have endured and seen some things and here they are,” she said.
