Some of the town's earliest businesses include D.E. Turner & Co. Hardware store, and as soon as you walk through the doors, it’s like taking a step back in time.
“We have so many people that come and visit our store and they walk in the front door and they just stop and they go, 'oh wow,'” said Jackie Justice, the owner’s daughter.
This 123-year-old business in Mooresville has been around almost as long as the town itself.
"This building was started construction in 1897 and it was competed in 1899," said Justice.
Justice says the history is embedded in this building from the ceiling to the floor.
“On these old floors, all of these staples and a lot of people wanna know why the staples are there,” she said. "People would come in and they would say, 'do you have a good staple gun?' And they would say, 'yea it's really good, it works really well' and they would bend down and staple the floor.”
You can even see it hanging on the wall with old pictures.
Justice’s father, Jack E. Moore, started working at the store when he was only 14 years old.
He said he was looking for an after-school job while in high school.
For the last 76 years, he’s worked here, taking over as owner in 1982.
Justice says now the whole family, from his kids to grandkids, pitch in to help with the store.
It’s just one of the many businesses making up the history of this town.
Mooresville Day will take place March 3.
