CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Four people were killed in a crash on Interstate 85 in Charlotte Tuesday afternoon when a pickup truck collided with a dump truck. Highway Patrol says the four people killed were from the Charlotte area.

The wreck happened near the intersection of I-85 and W.T. Harris Blvd. and closed all southbound lanes of the interstate for hours, between Harris and University Point Boulevard in Mecklenburg County, according to the NCDOT.

Highway Patrol says a pickup truck towing a utility trailer was traveling southbound in the far right travel lane and collided with the back of a disabled dump truck, which was also in the far right lane.

"All four occupants inside the pickup truck died as a result of the collision," troopers said.

The four people were identified by Highway Patrol as Edwin Garcia, Arthruo Garcia, Miguel Turcios and Kevin Turcios.

The road reopened before 11:00 p.m. Tuesday.
