CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Three people were killed and two others were hurt in a scaffolding collapse in Uptown Charlotte Monday morning, fire officials say.

The collapse happened around 9:15 a.m. on East Morehead Street near Euclid Ave.

Charlotte Fire Department officials say the workers who died fell about 70 feet when the scaffolding collapsed inside the building.

Two other people involved were taken to Atrium with minor injuries, Medic says.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department will be taking over the case.

Part of East Morehead Street was closed for a time Monday but has since reopened.
