MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — A North Carolina 15-year-old is spreading a little hope and inspiration this holiday season.
Bill Rierson is the founder of Sugar Check Charity — a nonprofit on a mission to help those with Type 2 diabetes understand and monitor their condition.
His group is partnering with free clinics to help provide diabetic supplies for patients.
“I founded the charity when I was about 11 or 12 years old and have been growing it ever since," Rierson said.
His group partners with free clinics across the state, Virginia and Tennessee to help provide diabetic supplies for patients. He says he hopes to make a difference.
"And it feels great to give back to my community and I'm doing more and more each year and I'm hoping to do it even more," Rierson said.
Since the nonprofit's launch three years ago, Sugar Check Charity has donated $30,000 in diabetes testing supplies to over 20 free and charitable clinics.
